Tape Technology Features

Spectra delivers enterprise-class features including encryption with integrated key management plus media, drive, and library hardware health monitoring. Learn more about Spectra’s tape library feature set below.

Assisted Self Maintenance (ASM)

Assisted Self Maintenance (ASM) is the support solution you need when downtime is not an option. ASM is an industry exclusive support offering that dramatically minimizes unexpected downtime. Response times are reduced by allowing you to stock a select group of parts on site for immediate replacement. ASM allows you to complete repairs in minutes with the remote guidance of support personnel to promptly restore operations and full assurance that on-site support is available. With ASM your business can continue archiving, backup, data, and protecting your most valuable assets without waiting for on-site support or spare parts delivery.

Highest Density

When data center real-estate counts, Spectra Logic libraries offer you unsurpassed storage density and minimal footprint through a unique and highly efficient design. Instead of using traditional tape slots, Spectra uses innovative “shelves” and TeraPack® containers to store tape cartridges. This approach gives Spectra’s enterprise libraries industry-best density, allowing you to store up to nearly 3 times the information per data center floor tile as the competition.

Library Lifecycle Management

Spectra libraries ensure their health through BlueScale Library Lifecycle Management (LLM). With LLM’s automated monitoring and tracking of hardware components over their lifetime, administrators can easily identify if components may be failing, well before errors occur. Library Lifecycle Management (LLM) tracks component-specific thresholds that, when met, automatically alert administrators via email.

Linear Tape File System (LTFS)

Linear Tape File System (LTFS) is a self-describing magnetic tape format that defines the organization of data on the tape. Supporting LTO-6 and later LTO generations, data tapes written in the LTFS allow for direct access to file content data and file metadata. Accessing LTFS formatted tapes is similar to accessing files stored on other storage media like disk or removable flash drives. This format presents a standard file system view of the data stored on the tape media, allowing for users to access the data directly from tape.
