Nathan C. Thompson - Chief Executive Officer

Nathan C. Thompson is the chief executive officer of Spectra Logic Corporation. He founded Western Automation, which manufactured memory boards, peripheral test equipment and storage systems, in 1979, while enrolled at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Nathan continued the business while in school, graduating in 1983 with a bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering and computer science. Under Nathan's direction, Western Automation acquired the assets of the interface company Spectra Logic in 1988 and renamed the combined company Spectra Logic Corporation in 1996. Today, Spectra Logic continues as a manufacturer of innovative tape and disk-based data backup and archive solutions—with products installed globally in over 40 countries.

Nathan has served as a member and chapter chairman of the Rocky Mountain Young President's Organization (YPO) and World's President's Organization (WPO) since 1994, the Colorado 30 Group since 2004, the University of Colorado's Electrical Engineering advisory board. He also serves on the finance and investment committees for the Alexander Dawson School of Lafayette, Colo. Additionally, Nathan is a licensed commercial instrument pilot with more than 2,200 flight hours logged. In 1996, Ernst & Young and USA Today named Nathan Entrepreneur of the Year. In 2003, he was awarded the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award (DEAA) from the University of Colorado. In April 2012, he was inducted into the Boulder County Business Hall of Fame.

Jeff Biley - Vice President Information Technology and Facilities

Jeff Biley is vice president of IT and facilities at Spectra Logic, and bears nearly three decades of experience in the storage and tape industry. Since 1983, Jeff has held various positions at Spectra Logic including materials manager, support and product test manager, and IT director.

He is an active member of the Information Technology community, the Rocky Mountain Windows NT User Group and the Association of Information Technology Professionals.

Jeff oversaw, planned and executed the building redesign of the company's worldwide headquarters purchased in 2010. He is an accredited Professional Project Manager (PMP) as well as a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

Jeff earned a BS from the Business School at the University of Colorado.

Matthew T. Starr - Chief Technology Officer

Matt Starr's tenure with Spectra Logic spans 24 years and includes experience in service, hardware design, software development, operating systems, electronic design and management. As CTO, he is responsible for the company's engineering department, manufacturing operations and planning division.

Matt served as the lead engineering architect for the design and production of Spectra's T-series tape library family. Spectra Logic has secured more than 50 patents under Matt's direction, establishing the company as the innovative technology leader in the data storage industry.

He holds a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

Brett Huston - Vice President of Human Resources and General Counsel

Brett Huston has served as vice president of human resources, general counsel and corporate secretary for Spectra Logic since 2000. He utilizes his broad legal background by supervising the company's global legal function including commercial law, intellectual property law, legal policies, compliance, employment law and litigation support. Brett also leads learning and development, corporate recruiting, compensation/benefits and HR systems/policies.

Brett's experience spans more than twenty five years, beginning as in-house counsel with Lexis-Nexis in 1984, and later in 1988 as general counsel, human resource director and eventually COO with CareerTrack, Inc.

Brett is a member of the Colorado Bar Association and is licensed in the state courts of Colorado and Ohio and in the U.S. District Court of Colorado. He holds a law degree from the University of Dayton and a BA degree in political science and history from Wright State University.

Brian Grainger - Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Sales Operations

Brian Grainger joined Spectra Logic in 2001 and currently serves as its executive vice president of worldwide sales and sales operations. With more than 20 years of experience in the storage industry, Brian is responsible for the overall corporate sales strategy, P&L responsibility and territory development and expansion in more than 40 countries around the globe.

Previously, Brian held sales, sales management and product management positions with OnStream, Gates/Arrow and Connor Peripherals.

Brian has held several key leadership positions since he joined the company; he formerly served as vice president of sales for the Americas until 2008 and founded the Spectra Federal division in 2003. The multi-million dollar company’s overall revenue has doubled under Brian's leadership.

Brian Rome - Chief Financial Officer

Brian Rome joined Spectra Logic in 2003 and currently serves as its chief financial officer. His primary objectives as Spectra's CFO are to manage the company's financial performance, position it for growth, ensure financial stability and to provide focus on strategic worldwide expansion.

Prior to joining Spectra Logic, Brian was the director of financial planning and analysis for Blockbuster, Inc. and the director of finance for Dr. Pepper Cadbury.

Brian holds a master's of business administration degree from the University of Texas at Dallas and a bachelor's of science degree in business administration from the University of Kansas.

Jon Benson - Vice President and General Manager of Emerging Markets

Jon Benson joined Spectra Logic in 2011 to lead the research and development of new technologies for Spectra's portfolio of data storage solutions. As vice president and general manager of emerging markets, he is responsible for developing new products that address customers' future data center requirements. Jon also oversees software development and quality for all Spectra products.

Prior, he was employed at StorageTek (STK)/Sun Microsystems for more than 24 years and was serving as vice president and general manager of its tape business when the company was purchased by Sun in 2005. During his tenure at StorageTek, Jon directed the product and business development of numerous tape library, drive and software platforms throughout the 1990s and into 2000-2005, including the PowderHorn, SL8500 and SL3000 tape libraries, VSM virtual tape and 9840/9940/T10000 tape drives. After the acquisition of STK by SUN, he served as senior vice president of worldwide storage, tape and disk divisions.

Benson earned a bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering from Colorado State University.

Roberto Bigliani - Vice President of Worldwide Service Operations

Roberto Bigliani joined Spectra Logic in 2011 and currently serves as the company's vice president of worldwide service operations. His primary objectives are executing new services strategies and creating new support offerings to keep pace with changing customer needs. Upon assuming this position, Roberto restructured the global service operations department to enhance Spectra's field service and support delivery, staff training, technical support and escalation, quality engineering, and part logistics processes. Previously, Roberto spent more than 12 years in service and support management roles with Dot Hill, LeftHand Networks/HP, Webroot and Rogue Wave Software. He has published several research articles based on two years of research activities conducted at North Carolina State University. Roberto holds both a master's of science and a bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering from Polytechnic of Turin in Italy.
