LSI Logic’s 2 Gbit Fibre Channel HBAS Certified with Spectra Logic Tape Libraries

2Gbit Fibre Channel host bus adapters certified to provide connectivity with Spectra Logic enterprise-class tape libraries in latest testament to product interoperability, reliability and performance.

MILPITAS, Calif. – January, 9, 2002 – LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) announced the certification today of its Fusion-MPT ™ based LSI44929-O and LSI40919-O host bus adapters (HBAs) with Spectra Logic’s enterprise-class Spectra 12000 and 64000 tape libraries. With the Spectra Logic certification, LSI Logic continues to add to its Fibre Channel list of certifications in support of open SAN systems.

“Certification of our HBAs with Spectra Logic’s enterprise-class tape libraries underlines our commitment to high-performance customer solutions,” said Robert Anderson, LSI Logic’s HBA group director. “Interoperability of 2 Gbit SAN components enables customers to deploy high performance, reliable, and robust SAN solutions. Having Spectra Logic certify the LSI Logic 2 Gbit HBAs demonstrates our on-going commitment to building the 2Gbit SAN infrastructure.”

LSI Logic’s Fusion-MPT (Message Passing Technology) 64-bit Fibre Channel HBAs are ideal for high-performance SAN applications such as tape backup. Both the single channel LSI40919-O and the dual channel operate at speeds up to 2 Gbit and are fully backward compatible with the existing 1 Gbit SAN infrastructure. LSI Logic’s Fibre Channel HBAs offer high bandwidth, CPU offload, and low I/O latency for maximizing SAN performance.

LSI Logic has more than 10 years experience in engineering Fibre Channel storage market solutions. LSI Logic products span the spectrum of storage market solutions including HBAs, I/Cs, RAID storage adapters and open enterprise storage systems.

In 2001, 40% of LSI Logic’s revenue was related to storage market products, underscoring the company’s commitment to product innovation and engineering excellence. The company recently acquired the MegaRAID product line and RAID technologies making LSI Logic the market leader in host-based RAID solutions. LSI Logic HBAs are available through distribution partners such as Avnet, Bell Micro Products, Insight Electronics and Arrow Electronics.

“The interoperability of SAN components still continues to be the driving force in providing ease of installation and cost-effective SAN architectures,” said Sharon Isaacson, Spectra Logic’s library product manager. “Spectra Logic fully supports the LSI Logic 2 Gbit Fibre Channel HBAs and their commitment to deliver interoperable SAN-based tape backup solutions.”

Spectra Logic’s 12000 and 64000 tape libraries deliver between 31 and 166 terabytes of storage, respectively. This enables Spectra Logic to deliver storage density of up to 286 gigabytes per square inch in a standard 19 inch rack footprint, the highest available on the market today. Coupled with industry-leading storage networking flexibility and library sharing capabilities, these capacity and throughput increases set a new standard for enterprise class library scalability, performance and flexibility.
LSI Logic introduced the Fusion-MPT architecture in June 2000 to deliver the highest levels of I/O performance while providing a versatile message-passing interface that allows for flexible value-added applications. The architecture, based on industry standard ARM® processor technology, has the unique feature of having the same device driver that supports both Ultra320 SCSI and Fibre Channel, eliminating the need to develop, install and qualify separate device drivers for each physical interface. LSI Logic considers its Fusion-MPT architecture to be the fastest, most efficient and versatile architecture implemented in high performance I/O controllers today
