Shared Library Services (SLS)

Shared Library Services (SLS) - As data grows, technologies change. Companies are continuously updating IT systems, adding new drive technology, and re-engineering their networks or introducing new technologies to improve business. Following such changes, you are left with the challenge of systems interoperability for a consolidated backup operation.

Integration and Efficiency

Available on all Spectra Logic libraries, Shared Library Services™ (SLS) makes it easy for you to take advantage of new systems and still utilize legacy technology—all while reducing the cost of ownerships through:

  • Investment protection
  • Operational savings and
  • Streamlined administration.

How It Works

Spectra Logic libraries provide integrated Shared Library Services (SLS) that support partitioning. With SLS, each Spectra library looks to the outside backup environment like multiple libraries. Each of the virtual libraries can connect to a different backup application, media type, operating system, and network environment. This lets you easily backup data from across a heterogeneous network. Partitioning with Shared Library Services also lets sites easily replace multiple libraries with a single Spectra library—just create a partition for each library to be replaced. Each partition appears to the outside environment as a stand-alone library. But because all the virtual libraries are part of one physical library, backup is simplified. You can use a single graphical interface to manage backups that were previously handled by multiple libraries. Shared Library Services requires no external servers or applications, making it very easy to use. it’s easy to use. To use SLS, simply run the library’s standard BlueScale graphical interface, either from the library front panel or from anywhere using a Web browser. A setup wizard walks through the few steps necessary to create a partition.
