Spectra Logic libraries will lower management costs, reduce risk, and protect your investment—not only in and of themselves, but in terms of how you can manage them. The Spectra Logic libraries are easily maintainable through some accurate and intuitive tools. They include an accessible, clear interface, specialized monitoring and alert functionality, easy, quick backups, and more below.

Large, Remotely Available Interface

RLCMost Spectra libraries have a large and intuitive, color touch-screen interface. The same interface is also available remotely through the Remote Library Controller (RLC) that displays through any Web browser. This Web interface gives you the freedom to manage your library from anywhere—your office, a different building, or a different country. And you can feel confident with the Secure Socket Layer cryptographic protocols which give you a secure connection when using RLC by providing safe communications on the Internet for data transfers.

Honed Alert and Monitoring Functions

The Observatory suite of management tools gives you the ability to manage multiple Spectra Logic libraries from one screen with customized viewing of alerts or failures. Built on the BlueScale environment, the Observatory tools provide full management access to configuration and operation of one or more Spectra Logic libraries from anywhere using a web browser. They also include support for SNMP and SSL.

  • Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is the standard for e-mail transmissions across the Internet, and allows you to send email alerts about your tape library.
  • Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is used by network management systems to monitor network-attached devices for conditions that warrant administrative attention.

Integrated Management and Controlled Access

  • Integrated management of and support for multiple tape technologies, (in the T-Series), mobile RXT disk, and BlueScale Encryption is available with Spectra Logic libraries.
  • The Rotation Manager enables you to easily integrate media tracking (including both tape and mobile RXT Media) with backup software applications and with Iron Mountain off-site storage services. (This is available with the T-Series only.)
  • Controlled User Access allows you to define who can access the library and the privileges they have.

Straightforward Backups

Managing and maintaining your library is easy thanks to the library's self-monitoring and Assisted Self Maintenance (ASM) options. ASM lets you use parts, stored on your site, to quickly swap in components—no waiting for a systems engineer. Just fix it and you're ready to backup again immediately. Plus, Spectra Logic support offers a wide range of other options to take the headache out of managing backups, including the SpectraGuard guarantee-on-time or free.

Swift Upgrades

Upgrading is easy too—simply enter an activation key to enable features, capacity, performance, and more. Drives and QIPs (controllers) are hot-swap which allows you to expand both capacity and performance.
