With LTO-7’s greater storage capacity, you can maintain or reduce your existing footprint with Spectra’s industry-leading storage density. Spectra tape libraries use innovative “cabinets” instead of slots, and TeraPack containers in place of individual cartridges, resulting in a storage density that is unmatched by any other library available. This incredible density lets you maximize the amount of data that can be stored per square foot of expensive data center real estate.
As your data grows you can maintain or reduce your existing footprint with Spectra’s industry-leading storage density and LTO-7’s greater storage capacity. The additional capacity offered by LTO-7, now up to 6 TB uncompressed, means that fewer tapes are required to store the same amount of data. This smaller tape count results in a reduction in both the number of library slots needed and the cost for offsite storage. This incredible density lets you maximize the amount of data that can be stored per square foot of expensive data center real estate.
LTO-7’s enhanced data rate, now up to 300 Mb/sec, provides a performance increase up to 88% when compared to LTO-6. This performance boost translates into the need for less tape drives to do the same amount of work.
LTO-7 has improved its error correction performance significantly relative to LTO-6. LTO-7 tape drives now write your critical data to tape at a level of accuracy that’s two orders of magnitude better than the previous generation of drive. This means you can rest easy knowing your data has been reliably captured on the media. In tandem with Spectra’s Data Integrity Verification and Media Lifecycle Management included with its tape libraries, the accuracy and reliability of LTO-7 tape ensures the safety of your data well into the future.

**Indications are that Barium Ferrite media will be required for all LTO drive generations beyond LTO-7.
Commitment to tape by Spectra and the LTO Consortium is underpinned by a recently updated LTO roadmap which now extends to a tenth generation of drives and media. Additionally, backwards compatibility to LTO-5 offers seamless migration and consolidation of data to higher capacity, better performance LTO-7 tape technology.
